Guide to new mommies

This post was created 3 years ago. Found it today while checking my google account, so sharing with you all πŸ˜€

Recently, I delivered (normal delivery) my second baby boy.

This is my 2 months old cutie pie AnwitπŸ’“πŸ’“

This is me and my boys

I am mother of 2 boys, 4 years and 4 months. With all my friends asking, how do I manage with 2 kids? how did I lose weight? What all I did to maintain fitness?

I thought of writing all my experiences so that it could be of help to someone else.

Motherhood is a  long journey and with some preparation this journey could be very rewarding and beautiful.

The way we prepare for exams, interviews or any important event, we need to prepare ourselves for this very important moment of our life.

Preparing for the pregnancy:

It is important to maintain a healthy life style to ensure a healthy mind and body. Before conception, having a right weight is a must.

During the pregnancy:

If not advised otherwise, maintaining an active lifestyle containing walk (40 mins) and prenatal yoga is good for development of baby and for mother too.

Weight gain during pregnancy:

Generally healthy weight gain is between 9-15kg, but if you are overweight at the time of conception then chances are you might lose some kgs. Generally, weight gain should not exceed 2kgs each month. A healthy and consistent weight gain helps baby and mother both while overeating may lead to low birth baby weight.

The 9th month:

If all the care is taken in initial months, then the final month would be much smooth. This final month requires lot of hard work by mother which is only possible if good lifestyle is maintained in initial months otherwise the body gets really heavy, stiff and aches almost everywhere. Mother needs to walk for 2 hours regularly and to do exercises which are helpful in preparing body for delivery.

During Delivery:

Even though you have worked hard and prepared your body well but labor pains can still take on you. Your doctor/caregiver would know what is the best for you. In my first pregnancy due to labor pains of more than 12 hours, I requested for a c-section but my doctor suggested for epidural. While in second pregnancy it was relatively easy, the baby was delivered in just 2 hours of labor pains.

The postpartum care:

Now all that attention and care is shifted to the new cute family member, this is the time when mother needs to take utmost care of herself too specially mentally and emotionally up till 6 months. Any form of stress and tension may impact you severely as body is weak.

First 40 days:
One of the best ways for taking care of yourself is exclusively breastfeed your baby. It has so many advantages for mother:

  • Helps in reducing tummy
  • Prevents breast cancer
  • No night trips for making milk for the baby
  • Eating all the yummy and healthy food
  • Breastfeeding naturally soothes the baby as baby gets the mother warmth, warm milk, mother heartbeat which baby is used to.
  • the most important is it protects baby from so many infections and helps in healing baby from any infections.

Food to enhance lactation:

Dal with ghee and jeera, daliya, milk are good to enhance lactation. Also it is important to eat light food for 2 months, it avoids constipation for mother as well as baby. Also light food helps in baby being less colic.

The postpartum massage:

A light full body massage with oil should be followed for 40 days for smooth healing of body. Sesame oil is preferable.

The yoga:

I started yoga at 4th month, it really helped me in keeping body and mind sound. With 2 months of yoga, my tummy was back to same as it was at the time of conception.
